At the Shedd Aquarium, a massive exhibit made entirely of plastic pollution fished from the Pacific is on display. Called “Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea,” it features 17 sculptures, from jellyfish to shark. The lesson? The ocean’s deadliest predator is trash.

Washed Ashore builds and exhibits aesthetically powerful art to educate a global audience about plastic pollution in oceans and waterways and spark positive changes in consumer habits.

The Washed Ashore Project creates powerful art that captivates all ages and teaches environmental conservation and sustainability. The Washed Ashore traveling exhibits feature beautifully designed and well-crafted giant sea life sculptures made entirely of marine debris collected from beaches to graphically illustrate the tragedy of plastic pollution in our oceans and waterways and to encourage conservation. Teacher, staff and docent workshops lead by an expert education team combining art, science and environmental issues accompanied by additional workshops and presentations.
