There are many fantastic organisations and initiatives, just like The Universal Sea, employing a variety of strategies in order to tackle plastic waste in the ocean.

One such example, and in fact one of our media partners, is Ocean Plastics Lab. An international travelling science exhibition that utilizes scientific strategies to engage with and educate the public about the problem of plastics in the ocean. The Ocean Plastics Lab is based in Europe, but this June the initiative travelled to the USA for the first time. To Washington D.C to be exact, for the Capitol Hill Ocean Week.

At the exhibition visitors discovered four repurposed cargo containers, set up to emulate a science lab. Each container explores a different aspect of plastic water pollution and its wide-reaching effects. By all accounts Ocean Plastics Lab’s week on Capitol Hill was very successful with roughly 20,000 visitors from all over the world!

The next stop for Ocean Plastics Lab will be in August in Ottawa, Canada at the Canadian Museum for Nature, and then back to Europe for the Arctic Science Ministers conference in Berlin in October.
