Description:
The installation addresses the origin of micro-plastic in global water bodies. Plastic waste is ground down by wave motion, milled into fine particles, ending end up in huge garbage whirls. Marine life swallow them, finally arriving in the human food chain. Micro plastic attracts and concentrates poisonous substances such as insecticides (DDT), carcinogenic plasticizers (PCB) and other hazardous chemicals. The narrative to the installation addresses avoidance and proper recycling of plastic products. A purpose-built website (http://micro-plastic.keicie.com), dedicated to the micro plastic issue, is available in eight languages.
