Dear marine conservationists!

The “Ocean Future Lab” is an interdisciplinary and participatory project that deals with future challenges in dealing with the oceans. Together with a diverse community consisting of artists, scientists and entrepreneurs, we are looking for new solutions on how we can jointly strengthen sustainable development for the seas

With our project we aim to strengthen creative citizen participation now and in the future. The goal is to identify and implement suitable measures in the lab!

After the public vote, the following idea givers were selected directly for participation in the hackathon from September 21-23: Congratulations!

– 23. September ausgewählt: Herzlichen Glückwunsch!

  • ANOOSH SOPHIE WERNER
  • JOY LOHMANN

A jury also selected 5 other ideas that can be further developed with mentors and experts during the hackathon:

We are proud that the Ocean Future Lab is a project of the “Science Year 2022 – Participate!” and is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. To this end, we at the IFAI have joined forces with the German Marine Research Alliance, the German Oceanographic Museum Foundation in Stralsund and the German Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven.

Let’s protect the seas and their inhabitants together! 💙

Description:
I am interested in biomaterials and have worked on a variety of different recipes using waste potatoes. Environmental concern and the universal trauma that we share for these catastrophic events we see daily, that would have at a time been a once in a lifetime event, make me passionate about developing my practice. Fusing art and science together as they both require creativity to develop new ways of working. We have all seen the damaging effects that plastic has on our oceans. Because plastic will never fully degrade, it pollutes the landscape and has detrimental affects on the wildlife. To overcome this, I find it necessary to look into alternatives to plastic. My potato bioplastics that I have developed dissolve in water very quickly, using bioplastics such as my potato bioplastics would greatly reduce plastic pollution and the damage this causes aquatic animals // Photograph of potato bioplastic
