Description:
Ruth Biller 2018 / RE-act Broken Wishes: Resumee of the 5 artworks. My artistic work is about memory, traces of the common cultural memory - but also about sustainability. In human consciousness, the water has purifying power and spiritual effect. The ocean is the whole, the source is the origin of life. Sacred springs are very common in Cornwall / UK. The selected photographs are from a place known since antiquity. From the B3312 road from Madron to Lanyon, after about one mile west of Madron, turn right onto a small road towards Boswarthen. The source is on the right of the trail for about a kilometer. The source is slightly radioactive. My photos (April2017) document plastic in the area and the impurities. According to legend, babies were and are bathed in a sacred ritual by mothers in May and laid to a dream sleep. In one photo a plastic baby lies in the polluted water. Scraps of diapers in the trees to keep diseases away from the child. You can call it tree of wishes. "Broken Wishes" counterbalances the spiritual and material value of the fountainhead, -a substance that we ourselves are made up- of with the plastic waste spoiled environment. The area has been heavily poisoned by exploitation of mineral resources in the last centuries (mines). The intention to clean this place and fill the tree with wishes of change!
