Description:
Mass consumption of ocean resources and sea life consuming plastic waste makes a deadly combination. My materials and imagery remind us that consumer choices have a profound impact on the environment. Consumption is a series of large crocheted plastic bag tapestries depicting whales and ocean waves as nets. Nature’s ability to endlessly reuse and adapt inspires my desire to eliminate post consumer plastic and reimagine it as art. Equipped with a crochet needle, and the help of my extended community, this ongoing series diverts hundreds of plastic bags from our oceans.
