Three quarters of the earth’s surface is covered by water. Through her paintings, the artist Priya Yabaluri wants to convey the message that the ocean and its inhabitants are an integral part of human life. The ocean conceals billions of living beings interacting in ways that we will never fully understand. We cruise along on boats on the ocean’s surface, and sit on beaches watching the ocean’s waves meet the land. One of the great things about the ocean is that we cannot build on it. It will remain a vast open space perfect for contemplation. However, humans are continuously destroying it and ignoring the diverse effects of this mass destruction. If we do not act in the right way, most of marine life will be lost in the future. The disappearance of biodiversity will cause disaster everywhere. Rather than exploiting earth’s water bodies, we should thank nature for this precious gift. Priya sees it as our moral duty to protect the oceans from being harmed.
