Entrepreneurship Summit 2022

On last weekend, 22-23 October 2022, we had the pleasure of being part of the Entrepreneurship Summit. It is organized by the Entrepreneurship Foundation and is one of the most important entrepreneurial events in Germany. More than 100 experts from various fields were present like Prof. Gerald Hüther (neuroscientist), Dr. Maren Urner (founder and neuroscientist), Günes Seyfarth (serial entrepreneur), Dr. Arndt Pechstein (Design Thinking expert) and other inspiring change makers.

Furthermore, the summit has a particular interest in sustainable and circular businesses that go far beyond simply maximizing financial growth.

The Ocean Future Lab was delighted to participate in the summit. The team welcomed an interested crowd in the Auditorium at the Free University Berlin. After introducing the audience to the mission of the organization IFAI Berlin, its board director Nicole Loeser gave an overview about the science communication project. Additionally, she shared insights of the previous Ocean Future Lab events, such as the workshops at the German Maritime Museum Bremerhaven, the German Oceanographic Museum Stralsund, the Futurium Berlin as well as the online workshops, and the hackathon and science slam. Many great mentors and scientists as well as interested citizens helped accelerating the ideas of selected teams during the last step of the project.

As part of the Entrepreneurship Summit, on 22 October, the project coordinators welcomed the three winning teams in Berlin for the official Award Ceremony.

First, Anoosh Werner presented her initiative “Plapla! – The Floating Whale” to the public. She was followed by Kathrin Köster of the team “Upstream Algae Shopping Spree“, accompanied online by her fellows Carolin Seeliger and Daniel Kupferberg. Afterwards, Joy Lohmann and Betty Möller from Hanover shared their vision and mission for the “Float Generator” in collaboration with the international Makers4Humanity collective.

It was a wonderful moment when the three teams received their Ocean Future Ambassador Awards highlighting their transdisciplinary work to envision positive futures for the oceans by Katharina Heilein and Laura Scherer as part of the IFAI team.

Congratulations to all the three teams! We can’t wait to  see your ideas get realized!
